少数派の意見は、発言者が真剣に話していても、笑いの対象となる。それはハーバード大学の、しかも政治哲学の教室でさえ、変わらないのだ、ということがわかった。教授はきちんと「勇気ある答えだ」と学生を賞賛した。大多数の教師が、こういうことをきちんと積み重ねてきたからこそ、ハーバード大学の学生は、少数意見を述べることができるのではないか。日本の学生が沈黙するのは、学生の気質の問題ではなく、教師たちの怠慢の結果に過ぎないのではないか。
